Brett Guthrie is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, representing Kentucky's 2nd congressional district.

Career History

Guthrie earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematical economics from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1987 and his Masters of Public and Private Management from Yale University in 1997.

Guthrie is a former vice president of Trace Die Cast, Inc., an automotive parts supplier based in Bowling Green. Guthrie has previously served as a field artillery officer in the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

Guthrie is a former member of the Kentucky State Senate, representing the 32nd district from 1999-2008.

In the 2008 congressional general election, he defeated his Democratic opponent, State Senator David Boswell and succeeded Rep. Ron Lewis, who did not seek reelection.


The Federal Reserve

Guthrie is a cosponsor of The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, which proposes an audit of the Federal Reserve. [1]

Foreign Policy

Guthrie voted AGAINST directing President Obama to remove United States Armed Forces from Afghanistan, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution. [2]

The Second Amendment

Guthrie received an A rating from the National Rifle Association (NRA) for the 2008 election cycle.

Guthrie currently has an A rating from Gun Owners of America. [3]
