Born June 11, 1954, Rep. Rick Nelson (D) represents District 87, which covers Bell County and part of Harlan County. Nelson earned a bachelor's degree from Cumberland College (Now University of the Cumberlands), and a master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University. He works as a teacher for Bell County Schools, and is a member of the Kentucky Education Association. He is also a member of Gideons International. Nelson has served in the Kentucky House of Representatives since 2001.
