Pork, short for "pork barrel spending" is a term used to refer to appropriations of public funds by Congress or other legislative bodies for pet projects that serve the interests local districts these legislators represent, rather than the interests of the larger population [1].

Many people now regard pork barrel spending as a modern day throwback to vote buying.
