Wayne Edward "Ed" Whitfield is a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives since 1995, representing Kentucky's 1st congressional district. He serves on the Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Career History
Whitfield was born in Hopkinsville and was educated at the University of Kentucky, where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He also attended the Wesley Theological Seminary. Whitfield served in the United States Army Reserve and reached the rank of First Lieutenant. He also was a lawyer, and served as counsel to executives at Seaboard Systems Railroad of Washington. He served as a vice president for the CSX Corporation in two different capacities and was the legal counsel to the chairman of the Interstate Commerce Commission from 1991 to 1993.
Whitfield's first elected position was as a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, a seat he held from 1974-1979.

The Federal Reserve
Whitfield is a cosponsor of The Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009, which proposes an audit of the Federal Reserve. [1]
Foreign Policy
Whitfield voted AGAINST directing President Obama to remove United States Armed Forces from Afghanistan, pursuant to section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution. [2]
Minimum Wage
Whitfield voted FOR an increase in the minimum wage under the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007. [3]
The PATRIOT Act
Whitfield voted FOR the PATRIOT Act in 2001. [4]
Whitfield voted FOR the reauthorization of the PATRIOT Act in 2005. [5]
Real ID Act
Whitfield voted FOR the Real ID Act in 2005. [6]
